Imagine your city's traffic cameras doing more than just monitoring. They could be earning money by providing valuable data to researchers and businesses, while protecting citizens’ privacy. A use case together with companies Felicity Smart Infrastructure, Milestone Systems, KMD, Aalborg University and CitCom.ai test sites UPV, LIST and DOLL is making that a reality, showing how AI cameras can safely and efficiently share information, opening new possibilities for everyone.

What's the Big Idea?

We're tackling the challenge of making it easy and safe for camera operators to share their data and create new business opportunities. A dataspace is like creating a secure marketplace where operators can "sell" data, but in a way that respects your privacy and follows EU and national regulations. This means connecting different cameras to various platforms, handling high volumes of video data, and ensuring everything is done legally, efficiently and in a robust and repeatable way.

This is currently being tested in collaboration with AI Innovator, Felicity Smart Infrastructure, DOLLs strategic partners KMD, as the Local Digital Twin integrator & Milestone Systems, handling and processing video data for consumption in the marketplace and the end consumer Aalborg University.

What's in it for You?

Companies involved expect to prove that this data-sharing model can work and generate revenue, in a sustainable and futureproof way. They want to show that they can keep data secure and adhere to regulations. With our strategic partner, Milestone Systems, you'll see real-time video streaming with data being cleaned and anonymized before it's shared. The data is then supplied to various open, and third-party platforms for browsing and consumption, one being DOLLs Local Digital Twin supported by KMD and another would be a EU Dataspace.

Why Should You Care?

This project aims to create new ways for cities and businesses to earn money from their camera infrastructure. It also helps researchers get valuable anonymized data to improve things like traffic safety, which is the interest of Aalborg University. Ultimately, it's about creating a safe and trustworthy way to share information that benefits everyone.

The Story Behind the Project:

This is a groundbreaking use case because it's one of the first of its kind in the EU. It's creating an automated system that takes video feeds, analyzes and labels them, and makes them available in a secure marketplace as the EU dataspace. This project uses various types of data, from raw video, numeric metadata to richer AI-generated information. It can be used to train AI for traffic scenarios, automate video processing, and create new business opportunities. Cities could even offer their camera data to researchers and consultants. And the best part? It can be expanded to include more cameras and even more advanced AI applications, like analyzing driver behavior or using thermal imaging for electric vehicles
